GRACE MARIN AGUILAR

Ms. Marin is an entrepreneurial and multifaceted Costa Rican violinist whose career is developed mainly in the field of chamber music. In that facet, she is a founding member of the Cuarteto Hispano, called the group in residence 2015 of the National Theater of Costa Rica, of the América Galante ensemble and of the Irazú Duo. Together with the pianist and composer Pilar Aguilar, she maintains a duo with which he toured Spain, England, Austria, France and Mexico and recorded, in 2012, the album Huellas en el mar, under the Ars Harmonónica label, which contains the integral of music for violin and piano by Aguilar. With the baroque violin, Syntagma Musicum is integrated, a group specialized in baroque music and obtains, in 2013, the National Music Prize. She has performed with them in theaters and communities throughout Costa Rica, as well as in Guatemala (2013), Ecuador (2014), Colombia (2015), Bolivia (2016), Mexico (2016), Panama (2017) and Cuba ( 2017). Together with the group she has recorded De aquí y de allá and in 2020 Convidando está la noche.

She has won several awards, including the “Andrés Segovia-José Miguel Ruíz Morales” award in violin (2007) and chamber music (2009), awarded by the International Spanish Music Course “Music in Compostela”.
As a chamber musician she has shared the stage with renowned musicians such as: Agustín León Ara, Enrique Santiago, Josep Colom, Lisa Garner, Kim Walker, Duo Hypatia, Amparo Lacruz, Andreu Riera, among others.

In her role as an orchestra musician, she has been concertmaster of the World Youth Day Symphony Orchestra (Madrid, 2011), of the Symphony Orchestra of the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands and of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Santa Ana, in Costa Rica. She has played as a guest in the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, the Madrid Academic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica, and the Heredia Symphony Orchestra. She is currently principal second violin of the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Costa Rica.
She has performed as a soloist with various orchestras including the Heredia Symphony Orchestra, Santa Ana Municipal Symphony Orchestra, the Balearic Islands Superior Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and in November 2017 she performed the world premiere of the Mawanda Concerto for violin and orchestra of the Costa Rican composer Pilar Aguilar accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Costa Rica.
Pedagogy is another of her passions and forms an important part of her work. She is regularly invited to give master classes and participate in festivals as a violin and chamber music teacher in which the International Festival of Music of Cobano (Puntarenas, Costa Rica), the International String Festival of the University of Costa Rica stand out ( San José, Costa Rica) and the Naolinco International Music Festival (Veracruz, Mexico). She recently participated in the 2019 Starling-Delay Symposium on violin studies held at the Juilliard School in New York.

She has dabbled in the field of production, as organizer and artistic director of the Agustín León Ara International Musical Performance Course, which took place in 2013, 2014 and 2016 in Costa Rica. Ms. Marin also organized and taught the 1st and 2nd "Violin Encounter" held in San José, Costa Rica with the Italian violinist Alessandro Bares and the 1st Chamber Music Workshop for students of the Basic Stage of the University of Costa Rica.
Ms. Marín began her violin studies at the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica. Later she obtained the Higher Violin Title (KADiplom) at the Hochschule für Musik Nürenberg-Augsburg, in Germany and the Master in Musical Interpretation and Creation at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, in 2013. All this under the guidance of teachers Guido Calvo and Bernhard Tluck. Later she deepens her studies with Joachim Schall, in Stuttgart; Eyal Kless, at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin-Ireland and with the renowned pedagogue Agustín León Ara at the Superior Conservatory of Music of the Balearic Islands, Palma de Mallorca, Spain. She has also participated in several training courses taught by Mauricio Fuks, Yair Kless, and members of the Endellion String Quartet and Latin American Quartet groups, among others.
Grace Marín currently works as a violin professor at School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica and the National Institute of Music.
